We only use the finest grade of lumber harvested from sustainable forest practices. Additionally,  the lumber is sourced from the best growing regions of each specific species such as Douglas Fir from the West coast of British Columbia to Eastern Hard Maple from Quebec and Black Walnut and White Oak from the Northern US.

West Coast Naturelle Premium Grade Long Length Engineered Hardwood Flooring is manufactured using only the top grade offered in the domestic hardwood lumber industry. This grade is commonly referred to as FAS grade or “First and Seconds” grade which must contain a high percentage of clear wood cuttings in each board ranging between 83 1/3 to 100%.

The grade of choice for the general flooring industry is “Number 2A Common” (No. 2Ac) also referred to as “Economy grade” lumber. This grade is available at the lowest lumber price range and also in the large volumes required for mass manufacturing of engineered flooring. The defects in the low grade lumber are chopped out to produce a clean grade of flooring but results in a floor of mostly short pieces with only an average length of approximately 30”.

There is not enough volume of higher grade FAS lumber for the general flooring industry to sustainably mass manufacture top grade engineered flooring. Please refer to the following link for further information regarding hardwood lumber grading.
